Metaplanet Becomes Fifth Largest Bitcoin Holder

Metaplanet has officially entered the top five corporate bitcoin holders. The company purchased 5,419 BTC for $632.53 million at an average price of $116,724 per coin, overtaking Bullish in the rankings.

Expanding reserves and long-term strategy

Following the deal, Metaplanet now holds 25,555 BTC valued at approximately $2.71 billion. Its average cost basis stands at $106,065 per bitcoin. The firm reported a 395.1% year-to-date bitcoin yield for 2025.

Dylan LeClair, head of bitcoin strategy at Metaplanet, said the move was only “the first tranche.” Earlier, the company raised $1.4 billion to continue building its BTC reserves.

Meanwhile, Capital B purchased 551 BTC for $64.29 million at an average price of $116,672. This brings Capital B’s total bitcoin holdings to 2,800 BTC.

Market reaction and stock performance

Despite these large acquisitions, both firms are temporarily underwater. Bitcoin briefly fell to $111,700 before recovering to just under $113,000.

Metaplanet shares ended 3% lower at 589 yen, while Capital B closed down 1% at €1.14. Both companies remain far from their all-time highs, with Metaplanet stock down 73% and Capital B down 81%.
