Luxor Technologies Addresses XP Miners’ Temperature Sensitivity

In a recent series of tweets, NickH (also identified as Nick Hansen, holds the reins at Luxor Technologies) exposed an inherent challenge faced by XP miners: a temperature sensitivity that diminishes performance beyond a certain threshold.
Highlighting the concern, he pointed out that any board temperature soaring above 55°C triggers a performance dip exceeding 10%. This phenomenon presents a dual-edged sword; a hurdle in maintaining optimal performance and an avenue for fine-tuning to enhance efficiency.
In his quest for a solution, NickH shared a tuning initiative aimed at nudging the efficiency just shy of 21 Joules per Terahash (J/T) at the stock power consumption. This venture is not merely a workaround but a stride towards optimizing the energy efficiency of XP miners.
NickH didn’t stop at mere observations. He delved into real-time testing, sharing results of a tune at varying inlet board temperatures. At 60°C, the power draw was 3168W maintaining a hash rate of 143T. Astonishingly, lowering the inlet temperature to 48°C, the power consumption plummeted to 2849W while holding the hash rate steady at 143T.
These revelations not only spotlight the temperature sensitivity of XP miners but also underscore the proactive steps towards navigating this challenge. The shared data illuminates the potential for refining energy consumption without compromising hash rate, a significant leap towards achieving better efficiency in cryptocurrency mining operations.
