Kuwait Cuts Power to Illegal Crypto Miners Amid Grid Concerns

Kuwaiti authorities are disconnecting power from properties involved in illegal crypto mining. The nationwide campaign aims to reduce pressure on the national grid and enforce the mining ban.

Over 60 People Investigated in Mining Crackdown

Kuwait has launched a broad crackdown on unauthorized crypto mining operations. More than 60 individuals are currently under investigation, and authorities expect that number to grow.

The Public Prosecution confirmed ongoing investigations following last Friday’s nationwide sweep. The raid focused on residential properties suspected of hosting mining equipment, according to local media reports.

National Grid Overload Sparks Government Action

The campaign was led by Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef and Minister of Electricity Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem. Officials emphasized that illegal mining causes severe stress on the national grid and has triggered localized blackouts.

The Ministry of Electricity has already begun cutting off power to the identified properties. Reconnection is only possible after approval from the Ministry of Interior. Additional inspections are ongoing in various areas.

Absolute Ban on Crypto Mining in Effect

Kuwait has imposed a complete ban on all crypto mining activities. The directive, initiated by the country’s anti-money laundering committee, is backed by national regulators including the National Bank of Kuwait.
