JPMorgan Plans Crypto-Backed Loans With Bitcoin and Ether

JPMorgan may launch loans backed by crypto assets like BTC and ETH in 2026, signaling a deeper move into digital finance despite CEO Jamie Dimon’s past criticism of bitcoin.

Bank prepares to deepen crypto lending services

JPMorgan is reportedly preparing to offer loans backed directly by clients’ cryptocurrency assets, including bitcoin and ether, according to the Financial Times.

The initiative may launch in 2026 amid a friendlier regulatory climate under the Trump administration. Currently, the bank allows borrowing against crypto ETFs such as BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), but this move would mark a significant expansion into digital asset services.

Shift in approach under Jamie Dimon’s leadership

CEO Jamie Dimon, who once called bitcoin a “fraud,” now appears to be softening his stance. Last week, he stated that JPMorgan plans to increase involvement with stablecoins, even though he remains skeptical about their advantages over traditional payments.

This potential offering highlights a broader shift at JPMorgan, aligning with the growing institutional interest in crypto. If launched, the new lending service would place the bank at the forefront of digital asset-backed financing solutions.
