Japan Could Waste 240,000 GWh of Energy by 2050—Bitcoin Mining Offers Solution

Japan’s renewable energy sector is facing a major challenge: significant energy waste due to oversupply during peak production periods. Agile Energy X, a subsidiary of Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO), estimates that by 2050, Japan could waste as much as 240,000 gigawatt-hours of energy annually.

To address this, Agile Energy X has launched a Bitcoin mining initiative that harnesses surplus renewable energy. With only 10% of this excess energy, the company predicts that Bitcoin mining could generate $2.5 billion in revenue each year. By preventing energy waste, this initiative not only supports the profitability of renewable energy producers but also incentivizes further investment in green infrastructure.
