Ingushetia Farmers Caught Stealing 8 MWh for Crypto Mining

Illegal crypto mining farm discovered in Ingushetia. Over 8 million kWh stolen using 99 ASIC devices. Damage exceeds 347 million rubles.
Illegal Mining Operation Found at Livestock Facility
An unauthorized crypto mining farm has been discovered on a livestock site in Surkhakhi, Ingushetia. According to Rosseti North Caucasus, the farmer secretly upgraded a 100 kVA transformer to a 400 kVA unit. This setup bypassed energy meters, allowing the use of over 300 kW continuously.
Inside the building, under a canopy, authorities found 99 operational ASIC miners. The stolen electricity amounted to more than 8 million kilowatt-hours — equal to five years of usage by a regional hospital.
Crypto Miners Caused Losses Exceeding $3.8 Million
Energy officials estimate that 94% of all stolen electricity in the first half of 2025 was linked to illegal crypto mining. The total financial loss is over 347.5 million rubles. More than 450 mining machines have been confiscated from violators. Investigations are ongoing to identify all responsible parties.
