Gas demand from miners and AI data centers: a $16 bn annual energy trend

Recent industrial analytics suggest that combined natural gas demand from bitcoin miners and AI data centers may reach up to $16 bn per year. This figure starkly contrasts with 2022 metrics, when related contracts totaled under $10 bn. A roughly 60% growth over two years emphasizes gas’s expanding role as a pivotal resource.

Data shows that by late 2024, over 75 mining farms and 40 AI hubs signed long-term gas supply deals. Average contract duration is 3-5 years, with annual consumption growth near 12%. Amid fluctuating electricity prices, gas emerged as a reliable, stable energy source.

If the trend continues, volumes might hit $20 bn by 2027. If this pattern solidifies, gas providers will find strong incentives to invest in infrastructure, meeting soaring demand head-on.
