Dubai to Enable Crypto Payments for Government Services

In a global first, Dubai will allow cryptocurrency payments for public services under a new agreement with Crypto.com, integrating crypto into the government’s digital finance strategy.
Historic deal announced at FinTech Summit
Dubai is set to become the world’s first government to fully accept cryptocurrency payments for public services. This follows a memorandum of understanding signed between Dubai’s Department of Finance and Crypto.com, announced on May 12 at the Dubai FinTech Summit.
The agreement outlines a plan to launch a secure digital payment channel. It will enable individuals and businesses to pay government service fees using crypto wallets, with payments converted into Emirati dirhams before being transferred to DOF accounts.
Part of Dubai’s cashless strategy
The initiative is part of the city’s broader Cashless Strategy. Dubai aims to shift more than 90% of all public and private sector transactions to digital methods by 2026. Officials expect blockchain payments to boost the economy by at least AED 8 billion annually.
Unlike pilot programs in other jurisdictions, this project integrates crypto directly into Dubai’s government infrastructure, providing real-world utility for digital assets.
Seamless crypto access via Crypto.com
Once technical integration is finalized, users will be able to make secure payments across participating government entities using the Crypto.com wallet. The initiative represents a major leap forward for crypto adoption in public services and financial innovation worldwide.
