Digihost International miner wanted to use New York City power plant, but eco-activists were against it

Earthjustice representatives filed a lawsuit with the Human Services Commission in New York City. The subject of the dispute was a permit issued by the Commission for the use of the Fortistar plant by the miner.

According to the plaintiff’s claims, Digihost’s permission to use the facility violates environmental and ecological laws because the work will be done on the PoW algorithm.

The dissatisfaction of eco-activists is caused by the fact that now Fortistar is active no more than 74 days a year, while the mining of cryptocurrencies will be carried out continuously. As a result, the number of emissions will increase by 3,500%.

The agency is failing in its responsibility as a regulator to comply with climate laws.

Recall that earlier a bill was approved in New York City that would provide for a two-year ban on mining. However, according to Mayor Eric Adams, such a course of action would only harm the economy.
