Bitdeer Doubles Down on Bitcoin Self-Mining Amid Weak Rig Demand

Bitdeer expands its Bitcoin self-mining capacity as rig sales slow, aiming to secure a top-five global mining position and stay competitive in a tightening market.

Hardware makers pivot to in-house mining

Bitcoin mining and infrastructure firm Bitdeer Technologies Group (BTDR) is ramping up its self-mining operations to offset a sharp decline in mining rig demand.
According to Bloomberg, the company has rapidly expanded its proprietary mining capacity, positioning itself among the world’s top Bitcoin producers.

In August, Bitdeer mined 375 BTC, ranking sixth globally behind MARA Holdings, IREN, Cango, CleanSpark, and Riot Platforms. The company’s goal is to secure a spot in the top five by early 2026.

Bitdeer triples hashrate as miners deploy unused rigs

Data from The Miner Mag shows that Bitdeer tripled its proprietary hashrate to 22.5 EH/s between December 2024 and July 2025.
The publication noted that both Bitdeer and Canaan have shifted unused inventory toward self-mining instead of selling it to clients.

“The large miners will likely stay cautious on fleet expansion,” said Miner Mag analyst Wolfie Zhao, citing high operational costs and record network difficulty as key constraints.

Miners diversify amid rising difficulty and AI demand

Despite Bitcoin’s price surge above $126,000, the 2024 halving and record network difficulty have squeezed profitability.
As a result, miners are increasingly diversifying into new revenue streams, particularly artificial intelligence and high-performance computing (HPC).

Companies like Hive Digital, IREN, and TeraWulf have already launched AI hosting and data center projects, taking advantage of soaring demand for GPU-based computing.

Analysts say this shift marks a new era for the mining sector, where energy management, diversification, and AI integration are replacing raw hashrate as the main drivers of success.
