Bitcoin Shows Resilience Amid Market Downturn — Wintermute

Bitcoin is withstanding macroeconomic pressures better than traditional assets, according to Wintermute. Analysts suggest growing institutional interest and reduced volatility could mark a shift in Bitcoin’s behavior.

Bitcoin Outperforms Traditional Markets in Crisis

In an April 14 report, crypto market maker Wintermute highlighted Bitcoin’s performance amid market turbulence. While the S&P 500 and Nasdaq hit 12-month lows, Bitcoin remained near its November levels.

Historically, Bitcoin saw deeper losses during economic downturns. But the latest data suggests increasing resilience and a behavioral shift.

Institutional Interest Supports Bitcoin Stability

Wintermute credits ETFs and BTC’s digital gold narrative for its recent strength. Its decentralized and censorship-resistant nature is drawing long-term investors.

However, Obchakevich Research founder Alex Obchakevich believes this trend could reverse. He said a worsening trade war may push investors back toward gold as a safe haven.

BTC Price Rises as Inflation Cools

Bitcoin rose 7% over the past week, reaching nearly $86,000. This came as CPI showed a 0.1% monthly drop — the first since May 2020 — and a 2.4% annual increase.

PPI also declined from 3.2% in February to 2.7% in March, reflecting disinflationary pressure.

Trade War Could Trigger Renewed Inflation

Still, Wintermute warns that new trade tensions may reignite inflation risks. Bitwise analyst Jeff Park expects Trump’s trade policies to fuel financial instability and boost BTC adoption.

Prediction market Kalshi gives a 61% chance of U.S. recession this year. JPMorgan places the probability at 60%.
