Authorities in Irkutsk Region Propose Miners Create Their Own Power Generation

Chairman of the Government of the Irkutsk region, Konstantin Zaitsev, stated that miners need to create their own power generation, to reduce the load on regional power grids. This comes as the southern part of the region has become energy-deficient due to miners’ activities.

Zaitsev noted that mining consumes about 1 GW of electricity per year, which significantly exceeds the capabilities of local infrastructure. By creating their own generation, miners can help balance energy consumption and prevent power outages.

One possible solution being considered is supplying the region with network gas from the Kovykta field, which would simplify the construction of new generators.
